Designed by local trail builder, Peter Jackson, Cape George Heritage Trails offer 37km of trails with connected loops and linear sections on Cape George peninsula, overlooking St. Georges Bay. Amazing beauty, panoramic views at various points with elevations up to 600ft. above sea level, the degree of hiking difficulty ranges from easy to challenging. You may sit beside a natural “Bubbling Spring”, enjoy the water falls, walk along the coast, sit on the beach, enjoy geo-caching or take a rest on benches placed by loved ones thoughtout the trail honouring heritage families. While hiking enjoy the birds singing, the rivers flowing, different flowers that grow wild and the wild life.
The trails are marked and maintained by the North Shore Development Association. Benches are located at several points along the trail for resting.
The trail consists of: 7 looped trails covering distances of 2-12km, 5 point-to-point trails covering distances of 7-21km, with several walking bridges that cross brooks and streams. 29km of costal trails, 6km of river valleys, 3km along the shoreline. The Cape George Lighthouse is within walking distance. Trail heads are located at Cape George Day Park, Cape George Heritage School, and Ballantyne’s Cove Wharf. Maps are provided at all trail heads but are not necessary as the trail is lettered and at each intersection there is a map to guide you. There is something for everyone!
CAPE GEORGE FAMILY HIKE-A-THON will be held on Saturday, 24 August, 2019, from 10AM - 1PM. Join a guided hike, or strike out on your own. Register at the Heritage School on Highway 337. Pledges and donations gratefully accepted! Prizes and food services available. Enjoy the beauty of the Cape on over 30km of freshly groomed trails! Rain date Sunday, 25 August.
